GIS 4 Schools is the sole source provider of technical assistance to Minnesota DNR's Firewise in the Classroom Project.
Firewise in the classroom is a service learning project that introduces students to Geographic Information Technology (GIT) through a series of lessons that show students how to use GIT to help protect their homes and community from the threat of Wildfire or other natural or man-made disasters.
GIS 4 Schools coordinates with Rural Fire Districts and county emergency managers to select Firewise Project areas for schools. At the end of a Firewise project, GIS 4 Schools prepares a report that identifies "High Risk Areas" in a Fire District.
GIS 4 Schools is redesigning the Firewise Lessons to match new STEM and geography standards.
